Thankyou for the overwhelming positive feedback on our latest Glow Up, the Mr Rio Artwork. We're thrilled to have shared the journey of its creation with you on our social pages. From deciding materials to the final touches that brought Mr Rio to life as a stunning piece of wall art.
At Restyled Furniture Studio, we're passionate about upcycling furniture and furnishings, and our current challenge of completing 52 painted projects in 52 weeks has led us to explore new avenues of creativity. One such project is the transformation of ornate frames into original artworks like our beloved Mr Rio.
Finding the perfect frame is key to our process, and we often scout local op shops for unique pieces with character. Once we secure a frame, the real magic begins.
While drawing or painting may not be our forte, we've discovered the power of decoupage papers to create captivating designs that adorn the walls of many homes. For any of us, by learning the techniques to apply decoupage papers, we can all create our own masterpieces.
How did we do it?
Mr Rio came as a folded #decorweave bursting with colour just waiting for his #herostatus transformation. With a few products and a bit of inspiration he is ready to stand proudly and show his beauty.
🔥 HOT TIP: Did you know decoupage isn't limited to just paper; we love experimenting with various mediums including tissue paper, fabric, serviettes, posters and even maps. The possibilities are endless.

To bring Mr Rio to life, we applied him onto a piece of MDF cut to fit the frame. (To read more about how to apply decoupage, read our Blog post here). Then, we enhanced his feathered features using #pearlembossingpaste by #fusionmineralpaint. By mixing Mr Rio's favorite paint colors with embossing paste, we created a custom shade of texture that added depth and visual appeal. Layering the paste with a brush allowed us to control the level of texture, creating a truly unique piece of art.

But the transformation doesn't stop there. We also gave Mr Rio's #baroque frame a makeover using #cashmere Fusion Mineral Paint. After a thorough clean and sand, we applied the paint and added white wax to highlight the intricate details, finishing off with a touch of gold gilding wax for added glamour. With Fusion Mineral Paint's built-in sealer, no additional sealing was required, making the process even simpler.
