Welcome back to another exciting instalment of our 52 Furnishing Facelifts in 52 weeks series! In this edition, we're thrilled to share the transformation of an outdated nest of tables into a stunning French Lavender ensemble, all accomplished over a single weekend. This project not only demonstrates the power of upcycling but also the ease of using furniture transfers to achieve remarkable results.
The Beginning: Outdated Nest of Tables
Our journey began with a nest of tables that had seen better days. While sturdy, they lacked personality and charm. However, we saw potential in these overlooked pieces and decided to give them a much-needed makeover.
Inspiration Strikes: French Lavender
Captivated by the charm and serenity often found in French countryside décor, we were inspired to turn these tables into a captivating French Lavender ensemble. Lavender, with its soothing color and enduring charm, felt like the ideal selection, paired with french script to rejuvenate our resent find.
The Process: Quick Flip with Furniture Transfers
With our vision in mind, we set out to work, wanting to finish this project in a weekend. We began by thoroughly cleaning and prepping the tables, ensuring a smooth surface for painting. Next, we applied 2 coats of our favourite neutral paint colour by Fusion Mineral Paint - Cashmere.
🔥 HOT TIP: A light sand with 240 or higher grit sanding pad will ensure a smooth finish. We like to use Artisan Prep Pad Sanding Sponge 220 or 320 grit as the sponge is easy to hold, soft on your surface and easy to get into hard to reach places.
Once dry, it was time for the magic of furniture transfers. With delicate floral patterns in hand, we carefully positioned each design, and once happy with placement, we removed the backing sheet, placed the transfer on the surface, and starting rubbing with the transfer tool included. In no time, we watched as our tables came to life with each transfer. These ingenious tools make decorating a breeze.
🔥 HOT TIP: It is important after applying transfers to burnish the transfer. To burnish, simply rub the transfer surface in a soft circular motion to ensure successful adhesion. Use a soft glove, lint free cloth or even a sock to remove any air bubbles and secure the edges.
The Finishing Touches: Sealing in Elegance
With the transfers in place, our tables were already looking like works of art. Essential in finishing the transfer, we sealed the design with a water-based protective topcoat. We use Fusion Mineral paint Tough Coat Matte. This final step not only sealed in the elegance but also ensured that our French Lavender tables would withstand the test of time.
The Result: French Lavender Elegance
In just a weekend, our once-drab nest of tables had undergone a breathtaking transformation. Now adorned with charming lavender blooms and intricate patterns, they exuded the timeless elegance of French country style. Whether nestled together or displayed individually, these tables became instant focal points, adding a touch of sophistication to any room they graced.
Conclusion: A Weekend Well Spent
Project 6 of our 52 Furnishing Facelifts series proved that with a bit of creativity and the right tools, even the most outdated furniture can be reborn into something truly extraordinary. By embracing the simplicity of furniture transfers and the timeless allure of French Lavender, we turned a quick flip into a weekend getaway to the French countryside.
Stay tuned for more inspiring transformations as we continue our journey through 52 Furnishing Facelifts in 52 weeks. Until next time, happy decorating!
